Statement from Congressman Dan Donovan on Yesterday’s Tragic Deaths
"My thoughts and prayers are with the victims of yesterday’s heinous stabbing that killed a mother and her two children and critically wounded her third child. The horrific attack that occurred in a Staten Island shelter yesterday is a startling example of the City’s growing homelessness epidemic and why more and more people are choosing to live on the streets.
“Our shelters must be safe and livable, and with $1.7 billion spent on addressing homelessness, money is clearly not the chief problem. While this is a function of City government, as someone who has spent my career in public safety and law enforcement, I stand ready to work with the Mayor’s office and our other partners in government to offer solutions on fixing this broken system.”
