Statement from Congressman Dan Donovan on Voting to Preserve the State and Local Tax Deduction for New York
“I stand with the majority of my colleagues in New York’s Republican delegation in opposing the budget because it calls for the elimination of the state and local tax deduction. I support the tax reform effort because overburdened families deserve tax relief so they can keep more of their hard-earned money, but I can’t support legislation that forces my constituents to pay for tax cuts elsewhere in the country. New York City already contributes billions more in tax revenues than it gets back from the federal government. I’m hopeful we can reach a negotiated resolution to this issue in the future, but the language in the budget resolution is a poison pill that I just can’t swallow.”
