Statement from Congressman Dan Donovan on Senate Democrats’ Push for a Government Shutdown
“House Republicans voted last night to keep government open, but Senate Democrats seem hell-bent on blocking the funding bill and trying to dupe the public into thinking it’s Republicans’ fault.
“Immigration and government funding are completely unrelated and should be handled separately. Even on this issue, though, Democrats are twisting themselves in knots coming up with excuses to say ‘no.’ Five years ago, they supported a border barrier, $40 billion in border security funding, and doubling the number of border patrol agents. Now, in a shameless about-face, they’re opposed to these principles and they’re shutting down the government because of it.
“The American people don’t send representatives to Washington to shut down the government. Senate Democrats need to end this irresponsible chaos, fund the government – including a 6-year extension to the Children’s Health Insurance Program – and get back to work on negotiating a solution to our immigration problem.”
