Statement from Congressman Dan Donovan on the Iran Nuclear Deal

May 8, 2018
Press Release

“Years of appeasement have emboldened the Iranian regime, but that ends today with President Trump’s decision to withdraw from the Iran Nuclear Deal. I fully support the administration’s work to reassert American leadership and hold Iran – a state sponsor of terrorism – accountable. I have long said that this deal prioritized Iran’s interests over American security, and it’s time to negotiate from a position of strength to stop the destabilizing behavior we have continually seen. Addressing the regime’s use of ballistic missiles, support of terrorists, work to oppress its people, and threatening conduct towards the U.S. and Israel will support our global community. President Trump’s focus on putting national security before political correctness has already shown great results, and I’m hopeful that we will see continued achievements in the coming months.”

-- Congressman Dan Donovan serves on the House Committee on Homeland Security and the House Committee on Foreign Affairs. He was staunchly against the U.S. joining the flawed Iran Nuclear Deal, which allowed for sanctions on Iran to be lifted, billions in assets to be unfrozen, and failed to address other illicit activities. Donovan represents Staten Island and South Brooklyn in the U.S. House of Representatives.
