Statement from Congressman Dan Donovan on Conviction of Ahmad Rahimi
October 16, 2017
Congressman Donovan released the following statement regarding the conviction of Ahmad Rahimi, who detonated bombs in New York City last year:
“Today’s conviction sends a powerful message to all those who wish us harm: terror will never win. Mr. Rahimi, who was inspired by ISIS’ radical ideology, sought to kill innocent Americans, but instead was swiftly held accountable for his violent actions. As New Yorkers we know that the strength and resiliency of our city will always be greater than the enemies who wish to attack our values and freedoms. Let us not forget the great work of the NYPD, whose training and skills were exemplified through the quick apprehension of this terrorist.”
-- Congressman Dan Donovan chairs the House Subcommittee on Emergency Preparedness, Response, and Communications, which has jurisdiction over terrorism prevention and disaster response. Earlier this year, the House passed three homeland security bills sponsored by Donovan, which bulk up the country’s defenses against nuclear, transit, and cybersecurity threats. Additionally, Donovan has advocated for and helped secure millions of dollars for New York City’s anti-terror programs.
